Robert Lewke, Ph.D.

Education:

  • Ph.D.-Zoology, Washington State University
  • M.S.-Zoology, University of Illinois
  • B.S.-Biology, University of Illinois

“I have taught biology at a high school level for two years, biology and anatomy/physiology at UW-Eau Claire for three years and worked in the science department (both as an instructor and chair) at Chippewa Valley Technical College for 28 years.

One interesting fact about me is that I collect and breed snakes. It may seem weird, but if we were all the same, wouldn’t it be boring?”

Laurie Mumm, Program Chair, Veterinary Technology

Laurie Mumm

Education:

  • A.A.S.-Veterinary Technology, Argosy University
  • B.S.-History/Secondary Education, UW-La Crosse
  • Certification-Coaching Competitive Athletics, Sports Medicine, UW-La Crosse

“My past work experience in the education field includes teaching high school history at Wisconsin Dells High School, serving as the director of education at the Casebeer Education Center in Scottsdale, AZ and teaching in the vet tech program at Argosy University. I have worked in the emergency clinic setting for animals (service as a CVT and director of nursing) as well in the private practice setting as a CVT. Teaching veterinary technology allows me to combine my strengths and interests and is a great fit.

Joan Hamilton, Coordinator, Massage Therapy

Joan Hamilton

Education:

  • B.S.-Career and Technical Education, UW-Stout
  • Diploma-Massage Therapy, St. Croix Center for the Healing Arts
  • Continuing Education/Certifications: sports massage, hot stone, Myofascial release, precision neuromuscular therapy, pregnancy massage, medical massage, hydrotherapy and healing touch
  • A.A.S.-Radiology Technology, Chippewa Valley Technical College

“I have nine years of experience in massage therapy and taught at three different colleges. I have previously served as the program director for massage therapy at Professional Hair Design. In addition to teaching, I work as a massage therapist at Optimum Therapies, where I practice with physical therapists on patient rehabilitation. Prior to Optimum, I worked for four years in a spa setting. I enjoy promoting massage therapy in the community as part of a wellness program.

The best thing about being an instructor is that point where you can see the light turn on for the student you know they understand. Specifically, the best thing about teaching at Globe is that it is small enough that you know everyone and it feels like family. One item my new ‘family’ might not know about me is that I am huge into genealogy and can give you a mini-course.”

Jana Schilmoeller

Education:

  • M.A.-Education, University of St. Thomas
  • B.S.-Biology, UW-Eau Claire

“My career has included both high schools and post-secondary environments – I taught high school biology for several years in Rochester, MN and then worked as a career advisor at UW-Stevens Point. I have also spent several summers working with Upward Bound and held state roles (working in a water quality position with the MN DNR). The best thing about being a teacher is learning from my students and the best thing I have found here at Globe is working with students who are very excited about their future.

A fun fact that people may not guess about me is that I make hand-made soap in basement!”

Kari Stender

Education:

  • Diploma-Massage Therapy, Capri College
  • Continuing education/certifications: sports massage, hot stone, Myofascial Release I and II, pre and post-natal, spa techniques, trigger point, cranio-sacral

“I have more than 14 years of massage therapy experience ranging from spa techniques to extensive training in the medical field, working with chiropractors, physical therapists and doctors. In these roles I performed deep tissue massage, trigger point therapy, sports massage and Myofascial release. I am a member of the American Massage Therapy Association and currently work full-time with Lotus Spa.”

Dayle Brian, B.S.N., Coordinator, Health Care Management

Dayle Brian

Education:

  • B.S.N., Graceland University
  • Certification - Lamaze
  • A.A.S.-Nursing, Chippewa Valley Technical College
  • L.P.N, Chippewa Valley Technical College
  • Diploma-Medical Secretary, Chippewa Valley Technical College

“I have worked in various roles in the medical field – I have been an RN for 30 years, worked as a clerical medical assistant, and been a Lamaze instructor for over ten years. I am a firm believer in education – teaching has always been my focus, both in the classroom and in my career as a labor and delivery nurse. In addition to working at Globe, I am a nurse educator at Luther-Midelfort. I have three children (four if you count Bowser, my Boston terrier). My children are all swimmers both in high school and college; my home away from work is anywhere near a swimming pool.

Two fun facts about me…ringing cell phones in class render consequences…and I make a brownie that is hard to forget.”

Eric Willmarth

Education:

  • Diploma-Massage Therapy, Minneapolis School of Massage
  • Certifications-massage licensure in Washington and Wisconsin

“A Wisconsin native, my wife and I recently moved back to Eau Claire after spending six years in Washington State, where I had my own massage practice. I have participated in several workshops within the community where I lived in Washington, increasing awareness for massage therapy. In terms of formal training, I have picked up several tips from my wife, who is a teacher. I am excited to work with Globe students and share my work experiences in the classroom, both as a self-employed manager and employee.”

Joan Schumacher, DVM

Education:

  • DVM, University of Minnesota Twin Cities
  • B.A.-Biology, St. Cloud State University

“I currently work full-time with Oakwood Hills Animal Hospital but have always been involved in educating others on the veterinary field. For nearly 15 years I worked with UW-Eau Claire on a program working with middle-schoolers interested in working with animals. This summer course involved visiting agricultural businesses, local farms and presentations. I am proud to say that several of these students have gone on to become veterinarians! In addition, I have been a guest speaker for classes at UW-River Falls and serve as an IACUC consultant for the science department at UW-Eau Claire. A horse lover, I frequently attend horse shows in the area.”

Laurel Bird, CVT

Laurel Bird

Education:

  • VTS Dentistry, Academy of Vet Dental Technicians
  • CVT, Medical Institute of Minnesota

“Currently a vet tech at Bakken Veterinary Clinic in Menomonie, I really enjoy sharing examples of day-to-day activity to my classroom. It’s great to see the enthusiasm from all our students, especially those I work with in the vet tech field. I have spoken at a national level on my experience with animal dentistry and look forward to bringing this background to our students.

One interesting fact about me is that my family and I never miss a Country Fest. Good thing it’s during break week!”

Margaret Meier-Radle, DVM

Margaret Meier Radle

Education:

  • Healing Oasis Wellness Center
  • DVM-University of Wisconsin-Madison
  • B.S.-Biochemistry, UW-River Falls

“I grew up on a family farm about 25 miles south of Eau Claire in the Township of Gilmanton, and have always wanted to be a veterinarian. My family is still operating this farm as an active dairy and in 2006 we received the Century Farm award, recognizing farming in our family for over 100 years.

My emphasis in my DVM program is in mixed animal medicine. I have also received post-graduate certification in veterinary and spinal manipulative therapy from Healing Oasis Wellness Center and am certified in Animal Chiropractic by the American Veterinary Chiropractic Association.

I first practiced in Wisconsin Dells at the Dells Animal Hospital and was there until 1999, when I joined the Buffalo Valley Veterinary Center in Mondovi. In October 2001, I started the Animal Wellness Center of Buffalo Valley, where I still practice today.

My husband Joe and I have been married for almost 17 years and we have one daughter, Emilia, who is in second grade at Mondovi Elementary. We enjoy living in our hometown and being close to family and friends – I look forward to making many more friends at Globe!”

Martha Lindeman

Martha Lindeman

Education:

  • Massage Therapy Diploma-Chippewa Valley Technical College
  • Continuing Education: Thai Massage; Hot Stone Massage; Raindrop Therapy and Lymphatic Massage
  • A.A.S.-Accounting, Chippewa Valley Technical College

“I am the owner of For Your Health located in the Gateway Chiropractic Center and also have a home-based office in Chippewa Falls. I still maintain my ‘day job’ as an accountant and financial analyst but all these positions compliment my course here at Globe very well.

My girls are in college but I still have my two boys at home. I enjoy all types of outdoor activities: hiking, skiing, kayaking, fishing, biking and recently – adventure vacations. Last year I hiked into Havasupai Falls in the Grand Canyon and camped for four nights (10 miles through the desert with a 50 lb. pack – not doing that again – but it was a great experience). This year it’s going to be backpacking in Italy for two weeks.”

Paul Olsen, DVM

Paul Olsen

Education:

  • DVM-University of Minnesota Twin Cities
  • B.S.-University of Minnesota Twin Cities

“I received my DVM degree from the University of Minnesota in 1985. My wife and I then moved to Mondovi where I was part owner of a predominantly large animal practice until 2005. In 2003, I began to work part-time due to a chronic shoulder problem (it was those large animals!). I have been practicing part-time in and around Eleva ever since. I’m excited about sharing my knowledge and experience with students at Globe University. In my spare time, I am building a street rod out of a 1941 Dodge pick-up with my son. I am also an avid hunter of deer, pheasants and grouse. While I know I’m a Wisconsinite, I am also a diehard Vikings and Gophers fan. Go Gophers!”

Heather Muller, CVT

Education:

  • A.A.S.-Veterinary Technology, Madison Area Technical College

“I currently work at Eau Claire Animal Hospital as a CVT and as Head Technician. I also do relief milking for a few area farmers. My current position at ECAH involves all the normal duties as a technician in a vet clinic including scheduling, purchasing and inventory management. After graduation I lived in Phoenix for two years – it was at this time I discovered my love for exotic pets and animals. I enjoy riding motorcycle, my horse Bologna and spending time with my three children and husband.”

Ebony Benson, CMA (AAMA), Program Chair, Medical Assisting

Ebony Benson

Education:

  • Continuing education credits in nursing from the College of St. Catherine
  • A.A.S.-Medical Assisting, Herzing University

“I have worked in a variety of clinic settings, including general practice, ear/head/neck and skin care. This background has allowed me to develop many different specialty skills that I bring to the classroom to effectively offer the student the information on where their emphasis may be. Having grown up in northwestern Wisconsin, I recently moved back to the area from the west side of the Minneapolis metro and enjoy being back.

One fact that you may not know about me is that I was a high school cheerleader with business instructor, Heather Rothbauer-Wanish!”

Melissa Moen, CVT

Education:

  • A.A.S., Veterinary Technology – Globe University

“I am an Alumni of Globe University (Woodbury) vet tech program. I have been professionally training dogs (and their owners!) for two years. I have also worked in the pet industry for ten years this August and I volunteer at a local vet clinic one day a week.

In my spare time I enjoy horseback riding, playing with my two rescue dogs and keeping up with my eight (going on 18) year-old daughter, Vanessa.

I enjoy teaching here at Globe because I get to share my passion for animals with other people, while contributing to the future welfare of pets. Globe is such a great ‘community’ in which to pursue your future!”

Patricia Cartmill

Education:

  • M.S., Applied Psychology – UW Stout
  • B.S., Psychology – UW Stout
  • A.A.S., Medical Lab Technology – Chippewa Valley Technical College

“I am part of the medical assisting team, bringing over 20 years of healthcare experience, 17 of which have been as a clinical lab technologist. I enjoy teaching because of the knowledge I can both share with and learn from those I teach. The students here at Globe have a wonderful diversity of life experiences that add to the wealth of the learning experience.

A fun fact you may not know or guess about me: I collect cast iron and cast aluminum cake molds (I use them, too!).”

Cathie Morrow, DVM

Education:

  • D.V.M. – UW-Madison
  • B.S., Animal Science, Biology – UW River Falls

“Since graduating from UW-Madison, I have been in private practice for the past six years as an associate veterinarian. I am currently with the St. Croix valley Veterinary Clinic in Glenwood City.

Once upon a time in high school, I considered a teaching career. However, I had dreamed of being a doctor since the age of six and ended up pursuing that road instead…though I never would have thought at that time that I would have been an ‘animal doctor’. In private practice, I have worked in clinics with and without CVTs and have come to greatly value the skills of these individuals. I have also had the opportunity to assist in one-on-one training of CVT externs and have really enjoyed the experience.

What is most impressive about my teaching skills is that during my first week of classes, my students will tolerate multiple slides of terminology and live to tell about it.

Currently, my husband, two children and I live on a little ‘farmette’ with cats and horses. I am one of the few veterinarians you’ll ever meet who doesn’t own a dog.”

Molly Flynn, D.C.

Education:

  • D.C., Northwestern College of Chiropractic
  • B.S., Pre-Med/Spanish – UW LaCrosse

“A business owner (Flynn Chiropractic LLC in Bloomer), I think teaching at Globe provides a great opportunity for me to work with students interested in the medical field. The students are encouraging and involved.

Something that people quickly learn about me is that I like to stay busy. In addition to teaching and running my practice, I also coach the JV softball team in Bloomer.”

Jodi Bohl, DVM

Education:

  • DVM – UW-Madison
  • B.S., Biology – UW Oshkosh

“I currently work with the Eau Claire Animal Hospital, where I am known as The Cat Whisperer, though I have experience with large-animal practice from my employment in other clinics. I come from a family of educators and have always incorporated training into my daily work with other veterinarians, vet techs and clients.

I have always been interested in felines – ask me sometime about my presentation on their evolution through the years.”

Kaylene Pernsteiner, CVT

Education:

  • A.A.S., Veterinary Technology – Ridgewater College

“Growing up, I was always the person who had the special touch with animals…everything except snakes. When it came time for college, studying to be a vet tech seemed the most natural course. I lasted one semester in college before breaking down and getting a pet (I had never lived without one before), and now am the proud parent of cats and two dogs, one of whom is currently in agility training.

I was hired by the same clinic where I completed my externship – Westgate Animal Hospital – and I have learned so much from both my clients and peers. I am always up for new challenges and love working with others, so this class is a great opportunity.

I’m also excited to work with such a great team! I’ve found out I have more in common than just our work – like Laurel Bird, I attend Country Jam every year.”
