Massage therapists have the healing touch. Massage is increasingly used help people deal with stress, injury and illness. At Globe University-Eau Claire, we award associate degrees and technical diplomas in massage therapy. These programs prepare students for rewarding careers in the field.

Degree and diploma programs in massage therapy

Massage therapy students are able to earn associate degrees or technical diplomas in the field.

Associate in Applied Science in Massage Therapy (AAS). Students are able to complete this degree program in as few at 18 months of full-time study. They are prepared to take certification exams for credentials that testify to their professionalism and commitment to the field.

Diploma in Massage Therapy. Students can complete their diploma programs in 12 months of full-time study. They are qualified for entry-level massage therapist positions in a variety of organizations.

Continuing education credits (CLEs). Experienced massage therapists and other health care professionals may take single classes for continuing education credit. Massage therapy CLEs can help nurses, personal trainers and others maintain certifications and licenses and keep their skills current.

Career options for graduates

Students in our massage therapy programs can look forward to positions in organizations such as the following:

  • Hospitals
  • Chiropractic clinics
  • Physical therapy centers

Graduates may also return to college for additional education. Diploma graduates may complete associate degrees in massage therapy or r allied health fields. AAS grads may choose to earn bachelor’s degrees in health care management or health fitness; both programs are available through Globe University’s online division.

Program information

Students in the associate program take general business classes and general education courses that strengthen their critical thinking and problem-solving skills. They complete core massage therapy courses that cover topics such as these:

  • Kinesiology
  • Exercise physiology
  • Medical terminology
  • Anatomy and physiology
  • Health care law and ethics
  • Swedish massage
  • Pregnancy and special populations
  • Myofascial release
  • Hot stone massage
  • Deep tissue massage
  • Trigger point massage
  • Thai
  • Energy work
  • Sports massage

Diploma program students take a similar array of core classes in massage therapy; the diploma program does not require business classes or general education classes. Like associate degree students, they complete externships that allow them to practice their skills in real-world settings.

After graduation—certifications and memberships

Upon graduation, they may take the NCETM certification exam offered by the National Certification Board of Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCTMB). They may also take the MBLEx licensing exam offered by the Federation of States Massage Therapy Board (FSMTB). Students may be able to receive reimbursement of exam costs through our Professional Certification Scholarship.

They are also eligible for professional memberships in organizations such as American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA) and the Association of Bodywork and Massage Professionals (ABMP).
